All I ever wanted in our marriage is for Mike to surrender his life to Jesus and to live like Christ. Surrender – check! Christ-like living – I have a lot of doubts!
This morning I felt like I have won the lottery. As Mike decided to have his haircut before going to work, I asked him if he got change for a P500 bill and told me to just get from his wallet which we realized that he have left at his mom’s car. So no wallet, no cash or cards, and no IDs.
I gave him cash but the real surprise was him being sensitive and aware of what probably to some is not a big deal, not at least here…He suddenly approached me and told me, “as a Christian, I feel like I shouldn’t drive today.”
With all the things that we have been convicted on like indulging in piracy and fake items or even cheating just to save some money, this is by far the best one for me. Last week, Mike was just preaching about what to do if ever I get in an accident on the road. More than taking photos of the said event, he said that a person should check first if the other car and driver have the right to be on the road during that specific time and day— check the plate if he’s coding and check if he has a license or if it’s expired. Because sadly, this is one truth that is hard to swallow in our country— people are quick to disregard traffic rules then they get in trouble (or get innocent people in trouble).
I know my husband is asking for an affirmation and of course I said that he’s right because if something happens to him while driving, there will be consequences. If it was just up to him, I’m sure he would still bring his car to work today. What could possibly go wrong, right? His office is just a couple of minutes away from home, should be no effort at all! But today he did not thought of himself alone. He surrendered his rights and decided not to be an entitled jerk. He decided to be honest even if no one is looking because truth is, someone up there knows what we’re doing even in hiding.
Mike is practicing what he is preaching!
As for me, I could have seized this opportunity to nag him and focus on that one mistake he did. I specifically told him to double check our stuff that is in his mother’s car and he said it’s all good. I could have rub it on his face that he was wrong and I was right and that his irresponsibility will cause us inconvenience but no, I am happy. My heart is rejoicing because my husband whom I pray for everyday had this epiphany and I am praising the Lord for it!
1 Corinthians 3:12-14
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
